Full Time Undergraduates: Reference Access
Undergraduate students are allowed free access to any NoWAL library for reference purposes only* (with the exception of the Eddie Davies Library in the Manchester Business School).
Part Time, Distance, Taught Postgraduate and Placement Students: Reference and Borrowing Facilities
Part time, distance learners, taught postgraduates and placement students are entitled to free access to any NoWAL library for reference purposes. They may also be granted borrowing rights under the terms of the SCONUL Access scheme.
Research Postgraduates: Reference and Borrowing Facilities
Research postgraduates are allowed free access to any NoWAL library for reference purposes. They may also be granted borrowing rights under the terms of SCONUL Access scheme
Research students at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) can obtain a NoWAL card to gain borrowing rights at other libraries as RNCM is not a member of SCONUL. Eligible students should contact the RNCM library.
Academic Staff: Reference and Borrowing Facilities
Staff are allowed free access to any NoWAL library for reference purposes. They may also be permitted to join libraries, other than their own, in order to be granted borrowing rights under the terms of the SCONUL Access scheme
Staff at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) can obtain a NoWAL card to gain borrowing rights at other libraries as RNCM is not a member of SCONUL. Staff should contact the RNCM library.
What about Inter-library Loan requests?
If the material you want is not available in your institution’s library/libraries, you can request this material via your home institution’s Inter-library Loan Service or Document Supply Unit.
What about access to electronic services?
These are restricted to home users only with the exception of online catalogues.
Are there any other restrictions?
Locally defined loan collections of heavily used items (e.g., week loan and Short Loan) are restricted to home users only. Specialist services and materials, including electronic and video resources, are generally restricted to home users only. Please check locally for the conditions that apply.
*In addition to the above reciprocal arrangements, pre-existing bilateral and local agreements will continue unchanged.
